PAPA SPUNTA TICAR®
The Event
Developed in Argentina by entrepreneurs, growers and scientists of INGEBI and CONICET since 1999, Papa Spunta TICAR® is a transgenic event - the first of its kind in this country - which main targets are to allow the grower to improve yields, and benefit the consumer with a better quality/price ratio. It was obtained after more than 20 years of work and research. This public/private initiative, funded entirely by the SIDUS Group, has the potential to modify the potato crop market, making it more efficient, profitable and sustainable.
Fighting the virus
Potato growing is susceptible to a wide variety of pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc.) that, although they do not cause any inconvenience to consumers, they do so in terms of production, maintenance and yield costs. This problem can translate into losses of up to 40% during the production. Papa Spunta TICAR® provides a solution to the serious problem of viral infection with PVY, which also reduces the use of insecticides in the production fields for the control of disease-transmitting aphids.
The Business Model
It is a model that allows the recovery of the investment through royalties that respect the needs of the grower, and which are charged on the seed purchased and/or saved, generating an innovative intellectual property rights payment system. In addition to being an economically profitable model, it is environmentally friendly and socially responsible. It is also potentially exportable to different countries of the world.

TECNOPLANT
Tecnoplant S.A., constituted entirely of Argentine capitals, is a company founded in 1992 and a member of the Sidus Pharmaceutical Group. A pioneer in plant biotechnology research, over the years it has carried out several bio-products of plant origin of high technological profile, such as the production and multiplication of transgenic plants, the production of biomolecules of high utility value of plant origin, or the recovery of native species of economic interest in danger of extinction. Different solutions to problems related to the applications of biotechnology to agriculture opened new alternatives oriented to the export of non-traditional fruit and vegetable products. Currently, the positioning of the Papa Spunta TICAR® is the main project of Tecnoplant.
